B-ROW was set up in 2011 to replace the existing Birmingham Schools Rowing Association as part of British Rowing’s strategic area Whole Sport Plan work in Birmingham. During the first few years B-ROW rapidly grew and was recognised for it’s achievements by winning the BBC WM Birmingham Newcomer of the year award and were runners up for the same award at the
West Midlands Community Sports Awards in 2014 and then winning the community award in 2015.
Following the success of their delivery program for rowing B-ROW were asked to administer the British Canoeing role of Birmingham Canoe Coach in 2016. The purpose of this role is to increase participation in Birmingham.
B-ROW now work closely with British Rowing and British Canoeing to deliver programs that offer a wider range of rowing participation opportunities, spreading the delivery of indoor and outdoor rowing in local schools, colleges, universities and youth organisations.
What We Do
B-Row offers indoor and outdoor rowing and canoeing to Schools, Colleges, Universities and Youth Groups across Birmingham. School and College delivery offers indoor sessions throughout the winter in curriculum P.E. lessons, we can also help to set-up and run lunchtime and afterschool clubs for those schools who wish to take the sport further. We deliver sessions in a massive
amount of establishments across the West Midlands.
Satellite Clubs are community based clubs that feed into the main regional club for example we run a satellite club in Kings Norton with the purpose of feeding the main club in Birmingham (Birmingham Rowing or Birmingham Canoe Clubs). We have set up many indoor rowing satellite clubs across Birmingham and this program is being followed with canoeing satellite clubs.
We are the chosen delivery partner for Birmingham City Council’s Active Parks program. We deliver free weekly sessions in local parks throughout the summer in both canoeing and rowing.
Much of our delivery is aimed towards growing the City’s main clubs and this is core to much of the development work we undertake. We work closely with many organisations including Sport England, Sport Birmingham, Birmingham City Council and many more organisations.
We regularly run the Level 2 and 3 rowing competition events in Birmingham
We run outdoor rowing sessions at Edgbaston Reservoir in Edgbaston where we work closely with Birmingham Rowing Club and Powell’s Pool in Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield where we work with Bishop Vesey Grammer School Boat Club. On these two sites we offer taster sessions and learn to row courses for both adults and under 18’s. Keep your eye on our ‘booking’ page to find out
when and where the sessions are taking place.
If you need help running any indoor competitions please get in touch as we
will be more than happy to help.
